The 34th Biennial Congress of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) will be held in Brisbane, Australia, 26 June to 1 July, 2011. The Congress theme “Balance and Uncertainty: Water in a Changing World” focuses on the central roles of hydraulic engineering, hydrology and water resources in our changing world and how these roles link to the broader issues. A balance is continually being sought between competing values in water engineering, including the environment, the economy, tourism, social and indigenous values, health aspects, aesthetics, and the needs of current and future generations.
The deadline for abstract submission is the 15 July 2010. Submit your abstract now!
To submit your abstract, visit www.iahr2011.org and select the “Call for abstracts” option. Once A full list of topics and themes is provided and you can quickly lodge your abstract using the on-line submission system. you submit an abstract, you will automatically receive updates. The notification of abstract will be early September and the deadline for full paper will be in October 2010. Each submitted paper will be peer-reviewed.
The congress is jointly organised by IAHR, Engineers Australia and its National Committee on Water Engineering. It will be held in conjunction with Australia’s two premier hydrology and hydraulic conferences:
- the 33rd National Hydrology and Water Resources Symposium and
- the 10th National Conference on Hydraulics in Water Engineering.
The integrated event will be attended by a wide range of international and Australasian academics, researchers, practitioners, regulators, infrastructure developers and resource managers with an interest in water . The congress will include the prestigious IAHR plenary lectures, the Munro and Henderson Orations, the Ippen Award Lecture, and announcements of the GN Alexander Medal recipient and John F Kennedy student award.
Due to a number of requests to extend the abstract deadline for the Practical Responses to Climate Change conference the organisers have extended the deadline until Friday 23rd March 2010.

The invitation and call for abstracts for the Practical Responses to Climate Change Conference which is sponsored by the Engineers Australia National Water Committee has just been announced. See the letter from the conference chair that is reproduced below.

On behalf of the organising committee I would like to invite you to the inaugural Practical Responses to Climate Change Conference, taking place at the Hilton on the Park, Melbourne from Wednesday 29 September to Friday 1 October 2010.
The Conference Practical Responses to Climate Change will provide a forum for presenting comprehensive responses to climate change within the water sector with particular emphasis on recent climate change science and impact research, vulnerability assessment techniques and adaptation strategies. It will be an excellent opportunity for engineers, scientists, planners and academics to present and debate current and future practices for adapting to changes in our environment from the catchment to the coast.
The Conference Program will focus on five streams; Coasts & Estuaries, Water Resources, Catchments, Floodplains & Waterways, Planning & Policy, explored in detail by a body of reputable and informative speakers.
We encourage you to submit abstracts on a range of topics as listed below:

Creating a Storm: The Future of Stormwater in Australia
Call For Abstracts
The Conference Steering Committee of STORMWATER 2010 are now inviting all stormwater practitioners to submit an Abstract for Conference Papers, particularly those that highlight lessons earned and demonstrate the successful application of those lessons. Abstracts that focus on the process involved in undertaking the project rather than the outcomes of the project will be highly regarded.

In 2010 we are seeking abstracts for both “Refereed” and “Non Refereed” papers. “Refereed” papers will be subject to rigorous scientific peer review under the supervision of a formal Conference Scientific Committee in accordance with the “Higher Education Research Data Collection Specifications for the Collection of 2010 Data”. This process has been put in place by the Conference Steering Committee to attract academic papers.
Authors not associated with a research institution may prefer to submit papers that are “Non Refereed”.
It is anticipated that refereed and non refereed paper sessions will be approximately 30 minutes in length with an additional 10 minutes allocated for questions.
Based on the 2010 Conference theme, conference paper abstracts are being sought in the following streams:

AIM AND SCOPE

On behalf of the organising committee and Gosford City Council, it is my pleasure to invite you to join us at the 50th Floodplain Management Authorities (FMA) Conference, to be held at Gosford on the Central Coast of New South Wales from 23-26 February 2010.
Being the 50th Anniversary of the FMA, Gosford 2010 will celebrate what has been achieved and look forward to the new challenges ahead of us. It will not be just about emerging issues in floodplain management, but will be a balanced discussion of practical, on-ground floodplain management and the policies and programs that impact on floodplain management across New South Wales, Australia and the globe.
Gosford 2010 also provides a fantastic opportunity to experience Gosford and the Central Coast. Home to the ninth largest urban area in Australia, the Central Coast includes many world-class beaches and national parks, providing an exciting backdrop to the 2010 Floodplain Management Authorities Conference, and associated social program and field trips.
