Submission Details

Abstracts of between 250 and 300 words will be accepted in Microsoft Word or plain text and should be submitted to abstracts@hiwe2017.com.au by 3rd March 2017.  Once the Abstract has been accepted, authors are required to submit a full paper for peer review on the template to be provided.

The Local Organising Committee, the National Committee for Coastal and Ocean Engineering, Engineers Australia, PIANC and IPENZ invite you to attend the Australasian Coasts & Ports 2017 Conference; an amalgamation of the 23rd Australasian Coastal and Ocean Engineering Conference and the 16th Australasian Port and Harbour Conference. The Conference will be held in Cairns, Queensland, from 21-23 June, at the Cairns Convention Centre.

The Coasts & Ports Conference series is the pre-eminent forum in the Australasian region for professionals to meet and discuss issues extending across all disciplines related to coasts and ports.

Our Conference theme “Working with Nature” reflects the increasing recognition of the need to design and operate projects from a perspective that places the natural environment at the forefront of the project, to benefit the community and nature.

An increasing awareness of the value for ecosystem services, both marine and terrestrial, complements this philosophy, and provides opportunity for maximising the benefits of multi-disciplinary collaboration between engineers, scientists and regulatory bodies.

Coasts & Ports 2017 will bring together engineers, planners, scientists and researchers to Cairns, to focus on the technological, scientific, policy, planning and design issues related to our diverse and developing coasts.

Coasts & Ports 2017 will continue to publicise the persisting importance of coastal engineering problems, incorporating numerous concurrent streams for technical presentations, half-day field trips and the opportunity to network with colleagues in a vibrant social program, including a Welcome Reception, Conference Dinner and Closing Sundowner.

You are probably aware that New Zealand has recently been rocked by Earthquakes. The thoughts of the Local Organising Committee are with delegates and their families that have been impacted by this series of earthquakes. For international visitors, the location of most of the earthquakes have been in the top of the South Island and lower North Island. Fortunately, for our conference, Queenstown has not been affected and we are looking forward to hosting the joint conference of the NZHS and HWRS (EA) in a couple of days. Outside of North Canterbury everything is running as normal.

Note the Conference dinner and more importantly the Hydrologic Games will be held at the Skyline Gondola on the THURSDAY night at the end of the conference. Ticket includes a ride on the Gondola to spectacular views of Queenstown. Lets make sure the Kiwis don’t win the Cumec Throphy! The National Committee on Water Engineering is pleased to announce the Munro Oration will be by BLAIR FITZHARRIS, UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO titled Reflections on Climate and Water over 60 years. Read more here. The Munro oration will be held on Wednesday 30 November, 6.00pm – 7.00pm.

Rory Nathan, University of Melbourne will present a Keynote on “Impact of hydrologic variability on design flood estimates”.
